The Wake County SPCA is expected to get more than a dozen dogs that were rescued from an alleged puppy mill out of Stokes County.
More than 150 dogs were removed on Tuesday following a tip about small dog being kept in one home.
Officials with the Humane Society said the dogs lived on top of each other, had food thrown on the floor next to their feces, were never groomed and had never been vaccinated.
"I'm shocked that this is in my county. The conditions these dogs were living in is just appalling to me," said Officer Philip Handy of the Stokes Co. Animal Control.
The dogs are expected to arrive at the Wake SPCA on Thursday.
