The City of Raleigh says about 9,600 gallons of sewage was dispelled from a sewer manhole on Thursday.
The City of Raleigh Public Utilities Department responded to a sewer overflow from a sewer manhole behind 4113 Cross Creek Court at 5:25 p.m. on March 17.
The overflow was corrected by 6 p.m., but an estimated 9,600 gallons reached a private pond on the property.
The City says the overflow was caused by an excessive buildup of grease.
The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources Division of Water Quality were notified of the overflow.
The City says only water, human waste and toilet paper are permitted to be discharged into the sewer system.
