A Leesville Road High School student has been arrested and charged with placing a hand cleansing substance in a teacher's soft drink.

Raleigh Police confirm that around 11 a.m. Thursday, the school resource officer responded to a medical situation involving a teacher, identified as Roseann Marie Monteleone.

Arrest warrants state the teacher was teaching a business class when she lost consciousness. She was transported by EMS to Rex Hospital, where she was treated and released.

It was determined during an investigation that Monteloeone had become ill after drinking from a soft drink can. It appears that some type of hand cleansing substance was put in the soft drink can when it was left unattended. Warrants state that the substance caused lesions in her throat.

Cody Austin Beckett, 18, a student of Monteleone has been charged with assault on a school employee and was taken to Wake County Jail where he was released to the custody of his mother.
