Two people died after a shooting at a store in the Orange County community of Cedar Grove Wednesday afternoon.
The shooting occurred at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Week in Treasures store on the corner of Carr Store and Mill Creek roads.
Orange County Sheriff’s Office says deputies arrived to find two people inside, lying on the floor. Phillip Johnson, 52, was declared dead at the scene, and 68-year-old Alexander "Skip" Wade, was transported to Duke Hospital where he later died.
Both men died of injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.
He said he could not comment on whether investigators were searching for a suspect or if the incident appeared to be a murder-suicide.
A neighbor told NBC-17 one of the victims had retired from the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Willie Tinnin said the deceased was his niece's husband.
"I just hate it happened, especially since it pretty much happened to someone in my family," Tinnin said. "So, I just hate it."
The SBI is assisting in the investigation and law enforcement officials are asking for anyone with information to call 644-3050.
