The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Greensboro doctor with solicitation of a child by computer to commit unlawful sex acts.

Detectives arrested Vijaya-Prakash Boggala, 31, Tuesday afternoon in a grocery store parking lot. Detectives say Boggala had been talking with person on the internet who he believed was a 14-year-old girl. Boggala had actually been corresponding with an undercover officer.

Authorities said Boggala drove to Fayetteville to allegedly engage in a sexually relationship with the girl. Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies were waiting for Boggala when he arrived and took him into custody.

Boggala was wearing hospital issued scrubs from Moses Cone Hospital, where he is employed as a physician. Cone Health issued a statment saying that Boggala has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the case.

Boggala is in the Cumberland County Detention Center.
