About 2,000 people across the Triangle will take part in the United Way's Martin Luther King day of service.
This is the seventh year people have marked the holiday helping those in need.
"It's our largest volunteer event," said Lindsay Lindstaedt with United Way of the Greater Triangle.
NBC 17's Penn Holderness, Bill Reh and Phil Sanchez will be volunteering.
There are a variety of events going on in each county and volunteers are still needed. Anyone can register at www.unitedwaytriangle.org/mlk/ to participate.
Durham Signature Project
Location: American Tobacco Campus, Bay 7
Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Description: 200+ volunteers will help with a variety of projects including: assembly of homeless hygiene kits, computer drop off and cleaning, book drive sorting, writing letters and creating valentines for veterans and active military, and potting plants. Volunteers are encouraged to donate new or gently used books and/or non-perishable food items.
Johnston County Signature Project
Location: Pizazz Thrift Store
Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Description: 50+ volunteers will conduct a diaper drive, new underwear drive, clothing drive, and non-perishable food drive.
Orange County Signature Project
Location: Christ United Methodist Church
Time: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Description: 600+ volunteers will work on a variety of projects including: assembly of health kits, birthday kits, and school kits, shoe sorting, clothes sorting. Computer literacy training sessions will also be conducted during the Day of Service. Help is also needed with the construction of saw horses and picnic tables. Children are encouraged to create valentines for active military and veterans. Volunteers are encouraged to donate new or gently used books and blankets.
Wake County Signature Project
Time: 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Location: White Plains Children's Center
Description: 100+ volunteers will help with a variety of projects including: assembly of homeless hygiene kits, book drive sorting, outdoor environment labor for playground area, writing letters and creating valentines for veterans and active military. Volunteers are encouraged to donate new or gently used books and/or non-perishable food items.
