Coordinators for the Krispy Kreme Challenge have set the date for the 2012 event and say this is the most challenging one yet.
Event coordinators say the event will be held on February 4.
The run is in its 7th year and has multiplied in participation. It started out with only 10 challengers and in 2011, they registered 7,500 runners. However this year, registration for runners will be capped out at 7,700 participants.
Coordinators say this will be the most challenging one yet because the race route is a little bit longer.
"We’re committed to providing the safest and best race route for our runners, and in collaboration with the Raleigh Police Department we decided to slightly alter the race route this year. This will lengthen the race to slightly under 5 miles," said event promoters.
To complete the Krispy Kreme Challenge, competitors will begin at the NC State Bell Tower, run to the Krispy Kreme store on Peace Street, eat one dozen donuts, and then run back to the Bell Tower.
