Duke's Richa Jackson, a sophomore on the women's basketball team, tore the anterior cruciate ligament of her left knee Wednesday night against Virginia Tech, Duke coach Joanne P. McCallie said Friday.
Jackson will miss the rest of the season. Jackson, a 6-foot-guard, started 17 games this season. She averaged 9.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 steals, and 1.1 assists per game.
Jackson ranked sixth overall in field goal percentage (51.1), but ranked second (57.1) in ACC game only. She also ranked 25th in scoring (11.1) in league contests.
“We all feel so badly for Richa,” said McCallie. “She is a special person and valued member of this team. No doubt she will be back stronger than ever. It is a new season for the team. We are a true work in progress.”
Since the start of this season, Duke has lost three potential starters - Jackson, Chloe Wells and Amber Henson. Jackson and Henson were McDonald's All-America selections. Wells started the first 10 games and Henson played in eight games before surgery. The team is now down to eight scholarship players with three regular season games remaining.
The No. 5 Blue Devils will play at No. 8 Maryland Sunday at 3 p.m.
