Turkington USA shuttering Clayton plant

»  Comments | Post a Comment

More than 100 employees will be laid off from Turkington USA in Clayton beginning Feb. 17 as a result of the plant’s imminent shutdown.

The U.K.-based company, which manufactures and supplies dough processing equipment for the baking industry, announced Thursday that it would lay off 101 employees from its plant located at 8182 US 70 West in Clayton.

“It is our hope that the impact of the layoffs on the individual employees and their families can be minimized,” Turkington USA President Clive Tolson said in a letter to the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

The process to shut down Turkington USA is expected to be completed by March 2.

In 2009, Turkington moved its U.S. operations from Goldsboro to Clayton. The building was formerly a plastic components manufacturing facility, and the town used a $324,000 building reuse grant to renovate the facility.
