The Wake County School Board will meet in a special called meeting next week to decide whether to take back a vote about creating a special school for ninth grade students of Panther Creek High School.
The board voted last week to create the center, but some parents and board members expressed concern about the distance between the school and the center.
They also spoke out about the vote happening before any public input.
A board member sent NBC-17 an email from board chair Kevin Hill explaining the called meeting.
In it, he said he would like to schedule the meeting with an action item about "reconsideration of the Panther Creek 9th Grade Center."
"I do not believe we can/should wait until March 6 to discuss this while parents are in limbo during the choice process," Hill wrote. "Counsel has shared that if we are not going to move forward at this time, this item must be rescinded by a Board vote during an action meeting.
"I feel this is the most pressing issue and discussion/deliberation cannot and should not wait until March 6."
The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 21.
