Decision 2012 has arrived with political hopefuls filing their paperwork for offices ranging from Congress to Governor to County Commissioner.
Filing began at noon Monday and the State Board of Elections in Raleigh was swamped with 40 candidates in just the first hour.
Local candidates visit their county board office.
All candidates must file and pay their fee by Feburary 29th at noon.
Some familiar faces today included Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, Superintendent of Public Instruction June Atkinson, Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry, and Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin.
The only gubernatorial candidate to file Monday was Democratic candidate Bill Faison.
"We've been going around the state pressing our jobs plan for five months now," said Faison. "The reason I'm doing this is for my kids and your kids and everyone elses kids. We need to secure their education to provide a future and provide them with jobs."
Hear more from Faison and some personal hurdles he may face while campaigning in our NBC 17 News story in the video monitor above.
Faison is one of at least three Democrats who want to succeed incumbent Bev Perdue, who isn't seeking a second term.
It's unclear if Republican candidate Pat McCrory will face primary opposition.
The primary is May 8.
