Two people escaped injury in a fire early Sunday in Raleigh.
The Raleigh Fire Department says the 911 call came in shortly before 2 a.m. from the home at 218 Cox Ave.
The first firefighters arriving at the scene saw flames coming from the back of house. It took about a half hour to bring the fire under control.
First-time homeowner Tiffany Ingersoll told NBC-17 News she bought the home just six months ago.
Ingersoll said she woke up to an odd smell, walked to the kitchen and saw a fire on her back porch. Then the glass blew out of the back door and smoke poured into the house.
Ingersoll said she tried to put out the fire herself, but was too late.
She said she's grateful a firefighter saved her cat.
"I'm okay, my boyfriend is okay, my cat is okay," said Intersoll. "I didn't lose the entire house, it is salvageable."
Ingersoll said she thinks the fire was touched off by a loose electrical connection on the porch.
The fire department has not yet made an official ruling on the cause.
