Counselors and staff will be offering help to Cedar Ridge High School students in Hillsborough grieving the deaths of a sophomore and a recent graduate of the school.
Samantha Tilley, 16, of Hillsborough and Beth Shivers, 19, of Efland were killed when the car Tilley was driving crashed into a tree Saturday.
The younger girl was a sophomore at Cedar Ridge, Shivers was a nursing student UNC-Pembroke.
The acccident happened around 11:50 a.m. on Buckhorn Road northwest of Chapel Hill. The Highway Patrol said the car was going too fast for the gravel road. The investigating trooper said the car was going 55 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Cedar Ridge HS principal John Wheeler said Samantha was active in chorus, as was Shivers who graduated in 2011. He said the two were close friends and their deaths have deeply affected students at Cedar Ridge.
