In conjunction with the "Hiring Our Heroes" event in Fayetteville, NBC-17 is highlighting just two of the hundreds of veterans looking to get back into the civilian workforce and the challenges they are facing.
Sergeant Annette Davis has been at Fort Bragg for the past eight years and is set to exit the military in three months. Her current mission, she says, is finding a job.
Sgt. Davis says she's been taking advantage of all the services that have been provided at Fort Bragg as well as submitting resumes and networking, but she has yet to get any feedback.
She knows competition is tough, but Davis says she refuses to back down from completing her mission.
"I know there's jobs out there. It may not be what you want to do at the time, but I look at it like every little bit helps. You know, you've got to crawl before you walk," says Davis.
Davis says she's interested in food service, but is willing to get trained in anything. She says ACAP does an outstanding job of helping with resumes and the job search and hopes Friday's job fair will open up some opportunities.
