Cary Police say a man--part of an ongoing investigation police were conducting--is in custody after trying to hit an officer with his vehicle Thursday night.

The scene unfolded near the Buffalo Lanes Bowling Alley in the 100 block of High House Road. Police say the suspect missed the officer but struck the police car.

The officer then reportedly fired a shot into the vehicle, but the suspect was not injured.

He was immediately taken into custody.

He has been identified as Randy Bernard Henderson Jr.

The 20 year old has been charged with Assault With A Deadly Weapon On a Government official, in addition to a list of other charge, including drug possession.

Cary Police say they were attempting to arrest Henderson Jr. when the events unfolded.

Because the investigation is still "ongoing", police declined to talk about the nature of the investigation.
