A domestic dispute Friday night in Wayne County ended with an officer involved shooting.
Around 8:40 p.m. Friday, the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a domestic dispute at 219 Miller Road in Fremont. The homeowner told authorities that James Gary Moskos was at the house looking for his wife who sought refuge at the home.
The sheriff’s office said Moskos used a shot gun to shoot at the front door of the house. The homeowner, his wife and Moskos' wife were inside at the time of the shooting.
Deputies said Moskos' wife hid in a closet and the homeowner’s wife hid in the kitchen while Moskos entered the home and threatened the homeowner.
During the confrontation, authorities said the homeowner suffered a minor injury to his hand after a second gunshot was fired.
Moskos’ wife was able to flee the residence and call 911 for help. Moskos then left the house after his wife. At that time, the homeowner and his wife were able to flee the house and call 911.
The sheriff’s office said Moskos eventually returned to his home at 220 Miller Road. Moskos ran into the woods behind his home armed with multiple firearms. Deputies arrived to the scene to assess the situation. Deputies then set up a perimeter in an effort to contain the suspect.
The sheriff’s office called in the Wayne County SWAT Team for assistance. Moskos got into a vehicle and sped off, circling around his own house. He then began to drive in the direction of the officers. A sniper with the SWAT Team fired at the vehicle, injuring Moskos.
