Triad doctor says his invention helps women with sexual dysfunction

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Triad doctor says he has discovered a way to help female sexual dysfunction, and for a lot of women, the invention is nothing short of a medical miracle.

Dr. Stuart Meloy, an anesthesiologist, said he stumbled on the invention several years ago while using a spinal cord stimulator in a female patient to send impulses to nerve endings to relieve pain sensations.

"She let out something between a shriek and a moan," Meloy said. "When she caught her breath, she said, 'You're going to have to teach my husband how to do that.'"

A gynecologist friend of Meloy's suggested he test the device on women who struggle to reach orgasm --one in three women have some sort of sexual dysfunction, some who can't reach orgasm at all.

Meloy did a clinical trial on 11 women who tested the device for nine days. Of those, 10 had positive results, Meloy said.

"(For) women who'd had at least one orgasm in their lives, we were able to restore that functionality," he said.

Meloy patented the device, which was recently featured in a Discovery Channel documentary, and he said investors have lined up to help him bring it to market.

He said he hopes to have it out of the lab and into the bedroom soon.
