Jury selection is underway in the trial of a Raleigh man accused of beating his pregnant wife to death.
Jason Young is charged in the death of his wife Michelle Young, who was five months pregnant when she was found dead in November 2006. Their 2-year-old daughter was found unharmed by her side.
Young entered a plea of not guilty to first-degree murder in a pre-trial hearing on May 19. Young says he was on a business trip at the time of the murder.
In August 2008, search warrants revealed DNA found surrounded by a blood splatter in the room that Michelle was killed matched that of her husband. The same documents indicated bloody shoe prints found at the murder scene matched a brand of shoes Jason Young purchased in 2005.
Search warrants also stated surveillance video obtained from the hotel in Virginia where Young was staying at the time of the murder showed him leaving a side exit around midnight. Hotel employees found a rock keeping the side door ajar.
The warrants say Young's key card to that hotel was only used once, and never to re-enter the hotel building.
