Thousands of people gathered in downtown Raleigh Saturday for the first “OutRaleigh” festival.
The festival, put on by the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgendered Center of Raleigh, is a celebration of diversity in the Raleigh community. The goal is to raise awareness, while providing entertainment.
"We all are just part of one big community," said Jimmy Brady of Youngsville.
Organizers said they hoped to make the event a tradition downtown. They said this inaugural event took more than a year to plan.
Funds raised at Saturday’s event will support programs LGBT Center of Raleigh.
Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker spoke at Saturday’s festival.
