Raleigh fire crews have put out an apartment fire off New Hope Road, but officials are still investigating what started the blaze.

Crews responded to the fire at Mission Capital Crossing Apartments on Dansey Drive around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say the fire started outside, destroying eight apartment units.

"All I saw was flames," explained resident Katrina Lodge. "I ran to a friend's house and knocked on her door and said my house is on fire."

Lodge said her 5 month old puppy died, however firefighters said they were able to rescue another dog in the fire.

The Red Cross is helping nineteen people, including six children, who have been displaced.  A spokeswoman said they were putting them in a hotel and would be providing food and clothing.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
