House Democrats and Cumberland County school board members will protest a bill lifting the cap on charter schools Friday.
Senate Bill 8, that passed in the Senate last week, would remove the current limit of 100 charter schools in North Carolina.
Charter schools are partially funded with taxpayer dollars, but are privately run and don't charge tuition.
Governor Beverly Perdue spoke to the State Board of Education Thursday about the bill and said she's worried the measure would strip resources from traditional public schools.
Democratic lawmakers in Cumberland County said the bill threatens the quality of public education in North Carolina.
The protest is scheduled for noon at the Central Services board assembly room in Fayetteville.
