Franklin County Commissioners have voted against holding a special election to fill the vacant sheriff's position, according to Commissioner Chairman Sidney Dunston.

The board voted 4-3 during a meeting Monday night.

Former Sheriff Pat Green resigned last month citing health reasons.

One day after his resignation, the State Bureau of Investigation began looking into missing funds of about $100,000 from an account the Sheriff's Office used for undercover investigations.

Dunston said the board will not move forward with appointing a new sheriff until after the investigation is complete.
