Franklin County Commissioners plan to discuss the option of holding a special election to fill the vacant sheriff's position on Monday.
They held an emergency closed door meeting Sunday regarding the resignation of former Sheriff Pat Green.
Commissioner Chairman Sidney Dunston would only say the meeting was about Green but declined to comment further.
The State Bureau of Investigation has been looking into missing funds of about $100,000 in Franklin County. The investigation began one day after Green resigned.
The Franklin County District Attorney says the money missing is from an account the sheriff's office used for undercover investigations.
