2 men arrested for ransacking Sanford home destroyed by tornado

Lee County Sheriff's deputies arrested two men for stealing jewelry from a home that was destroyed by a tornado that touched down in Sanford.

Roy Lee Stone, 61, and Larry Gray Knight, 54, were arrested Sunday for stealing jewelry from a home at 520 Poplar Springs Church Road. The home had been destroyed by a tornado that spawned from Saturday's fatal storm system.

Deputies confronted the two suspects after observing them walking through the debris at the site of the home.

The jewelry, valued at more than $15,000, was identified by James Pope, the owner of the residence.

Both Knight and Stone were held under $30,000 secured bond.
