Newborns develop so quickly that for a lot of parents those first few days seem like a blur.
But one local custom photographer is bringing parents' memories into focus.
Lina Jarmond specializes in newborn photography.
She photographs babies under 10 days old in the comfort of their own homes.
"At that age it's still pretty easy to put them to sleep and pretty easy to work with them," said Jarmond.
The Hatches wanted to remember their baby Louise's first days so they decided to have newborn pictures taken.
"We were just looking for something unique, something special, something intimate, something to really capture Louise and capture the first week of her life," said Leslie Hatch.
Jarmond mimics the womb during photo shoots.
She says the conditions help the baby stay asleep, which is safest for the baby.
"They had the room set to almost 92 degrees, they brought their own heaters. They also have a little machine that is like the mother's heartbeat," said Hatch.
And safety is the key, especially for certain poses; especially one where the newborn is photographed in a sling.
"Somebody at all times holds their hands literally touching the baby and that way if the baby moves we don't have any concern about the baby falling out," said Jarmond.
A hand, Jarmond said, that can later be edited out.
Jarmond also advises parents to make sure the photographer is a licensed business owner in case you have a bad experience. Find out about any professional training or certificates the photographer might have and be sure to ask for references.
For Lina, it was a yes to all three, so the only thing Hatch has to worry about is eventually which pictures to choose.
Jarmond's services can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000, but she says she devotes on average 25 hours to each client.
