Wake County School Leaders Discuss Adding New Student Fees

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Wake County Schools could start requiring students to pay a fee to ride the bus to school.

The finance committee met today and discussed ways to handle budget cuts expected from the state.

School board member Chris Malone tells NBC-17 committee members discussed the possibility of adding a one-time fee for students who ride the bus, adding a fee for sports teams and adding a one-time fee to allow students to leave school for lunch.

Malone says other ideas were brought to the table including split shift schedules where students would attend school on a morning or afternoon shift.

He stressed all the ideas are not final and are not ready to be presented to the board at this time.

Malone says the committee will wait to see what cuts the state requires before making any decisions or adjustments.
