Viztek, a company in Garner is creating software that allows doctors to diagnose from a cell phone, tablet or laptop.
Steve Deaton sells the software and says x-rays on film are a thing of the past.
"That took time and the film had to be couried in an ambulance or patient's hands or through the mail," explained Deaton. "So you have all these time delays and potential loss."
Digital technology isn't new, but Deaton says his company takes it one step further.
"It doesn't matter where you are you can look at the images over your iPad, home computer as long as you have a credential," said Deaton. "That type of technology doesn't exist for the private practice world from many other companies."
The technology is used in emergency situations so the ER doctor can review the x-rays before the patient arrives and the software allows the doctor to see more than just images.
"It will transport all the supporting documents and all the supporting information such as diagnosis and family history with the images live," said Deaton. "So when any physician is looking at the images they are presented with the whole medical history."
This is being implemented in urgent care, primary care and specialist offices across the country.
Deaton sees it as the future of imaging.
