Casting for the national tour of Green Day's "American Idiot" Broadway show has been announced and it includes three original cast members.
Original Broadway cast members Van Hughes, Joshua Kobak, and Leslie McDonel will hit the road as part of the touring show which is expected to make a stop in Raleigh in late January.
Hughes will reprise his role as Johnny, a character in which her concluded "American Idiot's" Broadway run.
"The creative team and I couldn't be happier with the stellar group of actors we've assembled which includes original Broadway cast members Van Hughes, Joshua Kobak, and Leslie McDonnel, along with many wonderful and talented new additions to the American Idiot family," said director Michael Mayer.
Along with the three original cast members, a musician from the original Broadway production will also be coming to Raleigh.
Raleigh native Dan Grennes played bass in the original production and will be a part of the touring production as well. His family says they're looking forward to the homecoming and will be watching the Raleigh performances "with great interest."
"American Idiot" is the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9-11 world and features the music of Green Day with the lyrics of its lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. The show has won two Tony Awards and won Best Musical Show Album at the 2010 Grammy Awards.
The show will make a stop at the Progress Energy Center in Raleigh from January 31 through Feb. 5. Tickets start at $16 and are available at the Progress Energy Center box office, Ticketmaster, or by calling 800-745-3000.
