Duke University is joining the birthday celebrations for British author Charles Dickens with a special exhibition and a public performance similar to ones he gave during his life.
Theater studies professor Michael Malone on Wednesday will re-enact dramatic readings of the kind Dickens used to give, in which he impersonated characters from famous scenes in beloved works like "Oliver Twist" and "Great Expectations."
Tuesday marked the 200th anniversary of Dickens' birth, and celebrations are going on all year in Britain and the United States.
Malone's performance at the Perkins Library is in conjunction with a new exhibition at Duke's Biddle Rare Book Room.
The exhibit includes rare first editions of Dickens' works, as well as other material.
